It is my wish that I can help to locate my grandfather's villages as soon as possible. Just found this forum few minutes ago. I dont know how to type chinese but I have taken pcitures of grandfather's tomb stone which shows his village.
Grandfather came to Malaysia in the 1930s.
I have booked my flight to Hongkong and then to Taishan next week. Hope someone like Henry or Tyuli1968 help me as quickly as possible. Thanks alot

Moy family is from Duanfen 端芬 town (formerly called a heung), Shanhou sub-heung 山后, Zhengmian village 正面. c-c-c.org/villagedb/display.cgi?level=Village&id=3515Is the other family's surname Wong 黃? If it is then it is likely to be Sanhe town 三合 Longjiang village 龍江. If so, it's one of the many idiosyncracies of Taishanese dialect. He 合 is normallly pronounced as Hop in Taishanese, except in this region name it's Gop; thus the error in the tombstone, indicating Sanjia (Sam Gop ) 三甲 instead of Sam Gop 三合. c-c-c.org/villagedb/display.cgi?level=Subheung&id=30 , village #41 If you are not familiar with Taishan nor know anyone there, I would suggest you enlist the aid of Henry's nephew. It'll save you a lot of time and headaches. You can search for that info on this board or Henry will post it again here. Roads to villages have no road signs. Many taxi drivers are from outside Taishan, even they may not know how to get to some of the villages.

Wow - you are working with a short fuse.

Sorry looi. I can't find anything in the c-c-c village database that associates surname 雷 with either 三甲 or 龍江.
The closest thing with surname Louie or Lei is Longgang (Lung Kong) 龍崗in Tong Min Heung 塘面 in the town of Dajiang (Tai Kong) 大江
Perhaps others here have better luck.
The c-c-c database is the best that is available on line, but it is by no means complete. However, looi, you have to be sure the info on the tombstone is accurate. The other suggestion is when you are in Taishan City is to go to the local Office of Overseas Chinese Affairs and ask them to help. It'll depend how much time you are planning to stay there. Good luck on your trip and your search.
Also, you entered the Chinese characters in simplified text, in order to view them correctly you would have to go to the menu Text Encoding and select the Simplified Text option.

Dear laohuaqiao, Thank u very much. Anyway, our Looi families are disappointed. I hope there is no error on the tombstone, I need to check with uncles etc but that picture was taken from one of our uncles. My grandfather's tombstone is very diffucult to make any sense.
Can Henry or others help? Please.

From the "current" address, there's more chance to find in various online map (smaller one can't find in any map BUT at least u can contact the 村委會 to find the hidden story)

Dear Colleagues,
Franky Looi engaged my Taishan nephew to help locate his ancestral villages
My previous response has been removed because my nephew worked very hard, ran up quite a bill for long distance phone calls confirming the location of one ancestral village and spent the rest of the day trying to locate the second ancestral village for Franky Looi.
My nephew and I have asked Franky Looi to pay for my nephew's services for 1 day plus expenses - Franky Looi is now - no longer interested in replying or paying for my nephew's services.

Dear Henry, You could be right. I guess I may not make it this trip cos of limited time. I will need your nephew help if I can make it next time. In the meantime, I need to check with other uncles etc to make sure the inscription on the tombstone is correct.

Looi,
I went back and checked a Taishan gazetteer that I have, unfortunately, I cannot read Chinese - but, I think that your ancestral village Zhengmian # 3 was included into a village # 2 which became part of Shanhou district # 1. But this change looks like it might have been done in 1959 and this gazetteer was published in 1998 - and the village # 2 may no longer be valid - as I was not able to find it. But, the China Postal database indicates that Shanhou is now a district or large village complex and may still include all these villages that were incorporated back in 1959. This is why it would be wise to have my Taishan nephew check it out for you and if you provide some additional information about relatives/ancestors from Longjiang village - then my nephew could also stop in the adjacent village to check and verify if this is your ancestral village of Longjiang. This confirmation can be done before you come to China and to avoid any surprises or disappointments.
Henry
